MAGGIE ZIEGLER

I’m a mixed media artist and graphic designer based in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. My work is strongly influenced by the natural environment here—especially the movement, colour, and shifting light found in water, sky, and wildlife.

I work across traditional and digital media, combining painting, collage, and layered mark-making. My subjects are often creatures with fins or feathers, painted with a sense of realism and set against abstract backgrounds that bring in movement and contrast.

My background in graphic design shapes how I approach composition and structure, but I also leave space for the unexpected. I don’t always know where a piece will end up, and that balance between control and exploration is an important part of my process.

My practice is rooted in curiosity, optimism, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. I’m interested in how art can shift perspective and create connection—both with our surroundings and with each other. Guided by my mantra, Create Everyday, I approach art-making as both a discipline and a daily habit.

At its core, my work is about paying attention—capturing small moments and translating them into something visual. It’s a way of slowing down and staying connected to what’s around me.

I’m an Exhibiting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and work from my studio at ARTWRX Studio + Gallery in Courtenay, BC.
